ABSTRACT
O objetivo deste artigo é apresentar algumas possíveis relações entre ruminação e reflexão com sexo, Neuroticismo/ajustamento emocional e bem-estar subjetivo (BES), decorrentes de uma análise crítica da literatura científica da área. O pensamento ruminativo, cujo conteúdo é negativo e desadaptado à resolução de problemas, deve estar inversamente associado ao BES. Porém, é possível que a reflexão melhore o BES, pois poderia amenizar o impacto negativo da ruminação. Nesse contexto, discute-se se ruminação e reflexão poderiam explicar BES independentemente do que as facetas da dimensão de personalidade Neuroticismo já predizem. Uma tipologia definida por diferentes níveis de ruminação e reflexão combinados é sugerida para verificação das diferenças de BES em homens e mulheres com diferentes níveis de ruminação e reflexão. As contribuições destas relações para intervenções são apresentadas.
The aim of this paper is to present possible relationships of rumination and reflection with gender, Neuroticism/Emotional Adjustment, and subjective well-being (SWB) as reflected on the current scientific literature. Ruminative thinking is negative and not adapted to problem solving and, therefore, may be inversely associated with SWB. However, reflection may improve SWB because it might diminish the negative impact of rumination. In this context, it is discussed if rumination and reflection could explain SWB beyond the explanation obtained from the subscales of the personality dimension of Neuroticism. It is also presented a typology of coping and adjustment, obtained from the combination of different levels of rumination and reflection, for evaluating differences of SWB in males and females with diverse levels of rumination and reflection. Contributions of these relationships for interventions are presented.
